Cyprus / Covid19: One death and 53 new cases from 43,163 tests - At 0.12% the positivity rate

One death from Covid-19 and 53 new positive cases from 43,163 molecular disease detection tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, the Ministry of Health announced, with patients in public hospitals reaching their 58, of which 21 are in serious condition.

The Ministry of Health announces that today, June 3, 2021:

  • One person has died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 362.
  • 58 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 21 are in serious condition.
  • A total of 43,163 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).
  • 53 (positivity rate: 0.12%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), bringing the total number of cases to 72,626 .

The following are the current results in detail:

 A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

One person who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 is:

  • A 73-year-old woman who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 362, of which:

  • 240 men (66%), and
  • 122 women (34%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 77.5 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 58 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 21 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 21 patients in serious condition, 12 are intubated, three are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and six to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 43,163 diagnoses made today, 5,325 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 37,838 by the antigen rapid test method, 53 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:

  • 8 cases from 103 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 3 cases of 3,300 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 11 cases from 1,468 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 3 cases from 244 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 2 cases from 456 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 26 cases from 37,382 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method.

 In addition, the following tests were performed without detecting a case: 

  • 103 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 107 samples taken from the inhabitants of Kato Pyrgos Tillirias.
