Cyprus / Covid19: Three deaths and 835 new cases from 106,483 tests - 179 patients hospitalized

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 20, 2021 :

  • 3 people died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 623.

  • 179 COVID-19 patients are being treated, of which 60 are in serious condition. 81.01% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

  • Fifteen post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized in intensive care due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

  • A total of 106,483 disease detection tests have been performed with the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).
  • 835 (positive rate: 0.78% new cases of COVID-19 disease were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), bringing the total number of cases to 145,996.

The current results are detailed.

 

 

A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

The 3 people who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 disease, relate to:

– A 68-year-old man, who ended up on December 20 in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

– A woman, aged 83, who ended up on December 20 at the Larnaca General Hospital.

– A 92-year-old man, who ended up on December 19 at the General Hospital of Famagusta.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 623, of which:

  • 397 men (63.7%), and
  • 226 women (36.3%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 75.9 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 179 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 60 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 60 patients who are in serious condition, 23 are intubated, 1 is hospitalized in an intravenous intensive care unit and 36 in an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 106,483 diagnoses made, 11,586 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 94,897 by the antigen rapid test method, 835 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:

  • 49 cases from 743 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 49 cases from 6,605 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 137 cases from 3,624 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 7 cases from 167 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 421 cases from 62,678 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 170 cases from 32,219 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.
  • 2 cases from 446 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.

In addition, the following tests were performed, without detecting a case:

  • 0 cases from 1 sample taken as part of tests on closed structures.

In detail, the rapid antigen tests (rapid test) through the program of the Ministry of Health were carried out today as follows:
