The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 31, 2022 :
– 2 deaths from COVID-19 were reported, bringing the total number of deaths to 733.
– 204 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 65 are in serious condition. 76.36% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.
– 20 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be treated intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
– A total of 137,680 disease detection tests have been performed with the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).
– 3,396 (positivity rate: 2.47%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), bringing the total number of cases to 256,746.
The current results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:
The 2 deaths announced with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 disease, relate to:
– An 86-year-old man who died on January 31 at the General Hospital of Famagusta.
– A 77-year-old woman, who ended up on January 31st in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 733, of which:
458 men (62.5%), and
– 275 women (37.5%).
The average age of those who die from the disease is 76.3 years.
B. Patients:
In total, 204 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 65 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 65 patients in serious condition, 31 are intubated, 4 are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 30 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 137,680 diagnoses made, 7,025 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 130,655 by the antigen rapid test, 3,396 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:
- 38 cases from 247 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 54 cases from 3,911 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 307 cases from 2,275 samples taken through private initiative.
- 42 cases from 334 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 1,853 cases from 68,222 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 1,096 cases from 62,433 samples examined by the antigen rapid test method through the program of the Ministry of Health.
- 6 cases from 258 samples received within the program of referrals by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
