As of today, the Cyprus and Egypt procedures for introducing a study for the transfer of natural gas from plot 12 “Aphrodite” to an Egyptian liquefaction station have entered an intensive stage.
The decision was made today by the representatives of the Technical Committees of the two countries, which met in Cairo. From Cyprus, five representatives from the Ministry of Energy and the Cyprus Hydrocarbon Company participated, and from Egypt, representatives from the Ministry of Petroleum and the Egyptian Hydrocarbon Company, implementing in practice the decision taken by the Minister of Energy, Natasa Elipos Mo. , during their recent meeting in the Egyptian capital, on the day of the Intergovernmental Conference of the two countries, which culminated with the meeting of the two Presidents Nikos Anastasiadis and Abdel Fattah Al Sisi.
Speaking to KYPE, the head of the Technical Team on behalf of Cyprus, acting General Manager of the Cyprus Hydrocarbons Company, Dimitris Fessas, stressed that the contacts between the officials of the two countries had already started online, but today it is important that meetings, where additional technical details were discussed and the schedule for the next meetings was decided, which will be at least two more for the year, so that the final study of the two countries on the transmission of natural gas and the evaluation of its results can proceed. .
“With this study, we can study the design of this pipeline, which is of historical importance for Cyprus and Egypt”, stressed Mr. Fessas, stating that in this study will be sought at the same time ways to improve the design of the pipeline, ” so that the existing infrastructure of Egypt can be exploited, but also how this pipeline can be connected with other projects that are being developed in the region “.

The meeting of the Technical Committees of the two countries was held in a very warm and constructive atmosphere between the representatives of Cyprus and Egypt, opening a new chapter on the transfer of natural gas from the “Aphrodite” plot in Egypt.
