Household energy consumption in the EU dropped to its lowest level since 2016, according to data released by Eurostat, the European Union&# 8217;s statistical office.

The figures revealed a significant decrease in energy use during 2022, marking a 7.7% drop compared to the previous year.

Specifically, EU households consumed 10.1 million terajoules of energy in 2022, the lowest recorded amount since 2016, when it stood at 10.4 million terajoules.

In contrast, Cyprus saw a slight increase in household energy consumption in 2022, reaching 15.1 thousand terajoules, marginally higher than the 14.9 thousand terajoules recorded in 2021.

Since Eurostat began collecting data for Cyprus in 2018, when energy consumption was at 14.0 thousand terajoules, there have been fluctuations, with an initial increase in 2019, a slower rise in 2020, and then a decrease in 2021.
