The first Cyprus Forum for local government, the Cyprus Forum Cities, takes place on 7-8 April 2023, in Limassol, in an effort to formulate a long-term sustainable plan for the development of the cities and communities of Cyprus.
The Oxygono in collaboration with the Limassol Municipality and TEPAKbrings together public and private sector experts and professionals from Cyprus and abroad, who will develop the dimensions that make up urban sustainability, including green strategy, sustainability education and technology for the benefit of citizens.
Through a holistic approach to the challenges facing local government, Cyprus Forum Cities will accumulate a diverse European and Cypriot expertise in areas such as sustainable development of local government, circular economy, sustainable mobility, energy and environment, sustainable tourism, shipping and strong>blue growth.
In the framework of the Conference, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis, the President of the House of Representatives, Annita Dimitriou, the President of the Union of Municipalities of Cyprus, Andreas Vyras and the Vice President of the Union of Cyprus Communities, Lefteris Periklis have been invited to outline the institutional designfor the sustainable development of local government in Cyprus. Afterwards, the representatives of the co-organizers, the founder of the Cyprus Forum, Nikolas Kyriakidis, the Rector of TEPAK, Panagiotis Zafeiris, and the Mayor of Limassol, Nikos Nicolaidis will outline the goals of the conference towards the formation of a local government that responds to the challenges of the modern world and the needs of citizens.
The building of Europethrough local government, is an important pillar of the conference, with invited speakers among other European and Cypriot experts and policy makers, the President of the European Committee of the Regions, Vasco Alves Cordeiro, the President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe , Leendert Verbeek and the Director of the EU Missions Office at the European Commission, Patrick Child.
A mix of public and private sector experts will analyze the concept of the circular economyin local government.
