The years when inflation hit Cyprus again are in 1991 with the percentage reaching 5%, in 1992 at 6.5% while in 1993 it decreases to 4.9%. The following years will be relatively mild inflation with the exception of 2008 when it reached 4.7%. We had years with negative inflation in 2020 (-0.6%), 2016 (-1.14%), 2014 (-1.14%), 2013 (-0.4%). Reaching today, the Ministry of Finance is optimistic and expects that in 2022 it will close with an inflation of 4.5%, while the Commission raises the percentage even higher to 5.2%, due to the increase in the price of energy.

The forecasts of the European Commission for the GDP of Cyprus in 2022 and 2023, in a period of great uncertainty and challenges, generally go hand in hand with the latest forecasts of the Ministry of Finance, which forecast growth of 2.7% and 3.8%, respectively, and once again demonstrate the resilience of the Cypriot economy in times of crisis, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement.

“Inflation in 2022 is expected to reach 5.2% , due to the increase in energy prices but significantly lower than the average inflation in the EU and the Eurozone, estimated at 6.8% and 6.1% respectively. “Specifically, for this year Cyprus is estimated to have the 6th lowest inflation in the EU”, the ministry's announcement states.
