The Ministry of Labor is expected to put the decree into effect and from that day, all employers must follow their instructions. A day that one could dedicate to Zeta Emilianidou, who until the last moment, fought to get the minimum wage fixed.</b></p> <p>After so many years of talks, last August, the Ministry of Labor managed to secure the approval of the Council of Ministers, for the determination of the minimum wage, with a Government decree, which comes into effect immediately from the 1st of the new year and invites all employers as they comply with its provisions.</p> <p>Specifically, according to the decree of the Ministry of Labor, every employee who works full-time must receive an initial monthly salary of at least €885 gross and after six months of continuous employment with the same employer, this salary must increase at least at €940 gross. However, the Ministry made it clear that due to the fact that there has not been any commitment to employers so far, a transitional period will be given to employers and businesses so that they can come to terms with the provisions of the law.</p> <p>Based on the Ministry of Labor decree, its provisions do not apply to domestic workers, agricultural and livestock workers and shipping workers, as well as workers to whom the Minimum Wages in the Hotel Industry Ordinance of 2020 applies.</p> <p> < p>However, from the point of view of the agencies involved, what is emphasized is that the situation will be closely monitored, by all the authorities, throughout the year. As for concerns about changes to existing wages, the prevailing view so far is that the legislation should be implemented and then judge on the facts.</p> <p><b>Concerns remain</p> <p> b></p> <p>During the consultations, what had prevailed is the disagreement between the employers and the employees, regarding the connection of the minimum wage with the working hours. On the one hand, the employers' representatives expressed the opinion that the floor should not be linked, at this stage, to the level of the minimum wage, while on the other, the workers believed that it should be linked, who expressed the possibility that there would be exploitation from a portion of employers.</p> <p>Although enough time has passed for consultations, given that the decree was issued at the end of August, while the specific disagreements were also present during the contacts of the Minister of Labor with the various agencies, until now no way has been found to bridge the differences in question . In fact, this was what finally led Kyriakos Kousios to take it upon himself and submit a proposal to the Ministry in the summer.</p> <p>However, what is taken for granted is that the Ministry's decree will be implemented normally, meaning also the fact that the whole situation and project will be under the microscope of the authorities, for the entire year of 2023.</p> <p><b>“Tribute to Zeta”</b></p> <p>This particular reform, one could say, is a tribute to the late Minister of Labour, Zeta Emilianidou, who worked throughout her career in Government to succeed in setting the minimum wage. In fact, until the very last moment, just before she was hospitalized, the blessed minister had contact with the agencies involved, so that they could set up a meeting on the issue. </p> <p>The President of the Republic himself, after the death of Ms. . Emilianidou, promised that the minimum wage would be determined before he left the Government.
