Cyprus managed to secure small amounts of immunoglobulin for the next period, after coordinated actions by the Ministry of Health, which will cover the needs of patients for a period of time.

Speaking in an open dialogue with voluntary Non-Governmental Organizations, the Minister of Health, Michalis Hatzipantela, referred to the issue, saying that the Ministry of Health managed to secure from the contracting company in the Netherlands schedules, with the dates of receiving the immunoglobulins in Cyprus.

According to the responsible Minister, the lack of this medicine is global and arises after the coronavirus pandemic, which also affects Cyprus.

It is noted that Cyprus needs approximately 1,500 vials per month.

Immunoglobulins are a medicinal product that is derived from blood. There are people who are born without the ability to produce antibodies and need to receive them, while there are also people who after some treatment or illness or diseases of the immune system, need to receive this particular drug.

As he said the Minister of Health, representations were made to the Embassy of Cyprus in the Netherlands, with representations to the corresponding Dutch services, however, it was not possible to resolve the issue.

He added that after continuous efforts by the Ministry of Health, the contracting company managed to secure small quantities of the medicine, giving a timetable for its receipt.

Specifically, Cyprus will receive on November 5 250 vials, on November 18 1,750 vials and on December 19, 2,400 vials.

Also, Mr. Hatzipantela said that a new tender is expected, to secure another 500 vials, which will be delivered on November 10.

In the meantime, in the last 20 days the Ministry of Health managed to secure 250 vials per week.

Open Dialogue of the Minister of Health with NGOs

Moreover, the course of the General Health System, patient sponsorships and allowances, innovative drugs, rehabilitation centers were on Thursday at the center of the Open Dialogue held by the Minister of Health with voluntary Non-Governmental Organizations.

More than a hundred Non-Governmental Organizations participated in the event, while a large number of opinions and suggestions regarding health issues have been recorded.

In his statements, the Minister of Health reaffirmed to the organizations the support of his Ministry, which will always be next to their problems.

The general conclusion of the event is that the NHS “came and will stay”, with the Minister of Health once again expressing the pride of the government and assuring that the system it will be constantly improved and upgraded.

For his part, the President of the Pan-Cypriot Volunteer Coordinating Council (CVCC), Ilias Dimitriou, mentioned how the first dialogue organized at the level of the Minister of Health was.

“A discussion, a dialogue, an exchange of opinions, statements and suggestions from NGOs, in which the concern of volunteers and NGOs, dealing with health issues, is recorded”, he said.

He interpreted. that “GeSY came and will stay”, to note that “it is a blessing for the place and the voluntary Movement will continue to support it”.
