Cyprus sees increase in overnight stays through Airbnb, Booking


    The short-term rental market in the EU experienced a significant increase in the third quarter of 2023, surpassing pre-pandemic levels.

    Visitors exceeded 309.4 million overnight stays in short-term rental accommodations across member countries, booked through platforms such as Airbnb, Booking, Expedia Group, or TripAdvisor.

    According to Eurostat, this represents a 13.4% increase compared to the same period in 2022. At this rate, the platform tourism continued to surpass pre-pandemic levels, achieving new monthly record values. In July, there were 115.7 million overnight stays in accommodations booked through online platforms, marking a 10.7% increase compared to July 2022.

    In August, the number rose to 124.7 million (11.7% increase compared to August 2022 ), and in September, it reached 69.1 million (21.6% increase compared to September 2022).

    In Cyprus, from January to September 2023, short-term accommodation hosted 3,828,921 visitors.

    The top destinations in the second quarter of 2023 were Spain, Croatia, and France.

    The most popular regions for short-term rental accommodations booked through online platforms in the same period were Andalusia in Spain (7.1 million overnight stays), Jadranska Hrvatska in Croatia (6.5 million), and the French region Île de France (5.8 million).

    Among the top 20 regions, seven are in Spain, five in France and Italy, two in Portugal, and one in Croatia.
