The excellent relations and the excellent cooperation between Cyprus and the USA in matters related to shipping and especially in the context of international organizations, the Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hatzimanoli pointed out, in a formal meeting she had on Wednesday with the US Ambassador to Cyprus Julie Fisher.
According to a statement from the Deputy Ministry, welcoming the Ambassador, Ms. Hatzimanoli expressed her warm wishes to Ms. Fisher and the American people, on the occasion of the celebration of the 247th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the USA.
The Deputy Minister pointed out the excellent relations and the excellent cooperation of the two countries in matters related to shipping and especially in the context of international organizations. Ms Hatzimanoli referred to Cyprus' excellent relations with the American delegation to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), where there is constructive cooperation, both in matters of safety and security, as well as in the very important environmental issues.
During the meeting, among others, issues such as blue growth, the effects of sanctions on Cypriot shipping, and the decarbonization of shipping were discussed, where both sides emphasized the importance of the commitment of the entire shipping sector, in the framework of the Declaration “Declaration on Zero Emission Shipping by 2050”, which aims to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2050, from activities in the shipping sector.
In closing, the Deputy Minister informed the American Ambassador about the holding of the “Maritime Cyprus 2023” Conference, which will take place on October 8-11, 2023 and thanked her for the constructive meeting and the support so far, assuring the continuation and further development of the cooperation of of two parties in the shipping sector.
