The Mayor of Larnaca requested the Minister of Energy to end the SEVESO Directive in the area of the former refineries, due to the great interest from investors, so that development projects can be launched.
In a statement from the Municipality of Larnaca, it is stated that the Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry, Natasa Pileidou, visited the city last week and had a meeting with the Mayor, the President of EBEL, representatives of the Federation of Employers and Industrialists and Officials. The aim of the meeting was, as stated by the Municipality, to inform the Minister about the implementation progress of various issues concerning Larnaca.
The Mayor of Larnaca Andreas Vyras thanked the Minister of Energy for the kind cooperation of her Ministry with the Municipality of Larnaca in relation to the issues that fall under their own competence. As stated in the announcement, in view of the great interest from investors in the area of the former refineries, the Mayor mentioned that it is necessary to end the implementation of the SEVESO Directive in order to be able to launch the projects that will radically change the image of this location.
During the meeting, the issue of proper utilization of the Pampoula area in Larnaca, located in the center of the city, was also discussed. It is expected, the announcement adds, that an on-site visit by competent officials of the Ministry of Energy and the Municipality of Larnaca will soon be planned in order to evaluate the next steps.
