<p><strong>At least 42 people died in Kenya when a dam broke north of the capital Nairobi in Mai Mahiu district, the local governor told AFP, as the country was hit by torrential rains fatal consequences.</strong></p>
<p>“42 dead is a provisional count. There are others trapped in the mud that we are working to extricate,” said Gov. Susan Kichika.</p>

Earlier today, Kenyan authorities announced the postponement of the opening of schools for a week due to heavy rainfall due to the El Nino climate phenomenon, which have caused catastrophic flooding in the east African country.

El Nino is a natural climate phenomenon generally associated with global warming — causing droughts in some areas, excessive rainfall in others.
