The Minister of Health, Michalis Damianos, expressed his optimism that the differences with the public doctors will be resolved and a holistic solution will be found, at a meeting scheduled for next Thursday.
In his statements in Limassol, on the sidelines of the 9th Pancyprian Conference of Pathology, the Minister was asked to comment on a report by the President of PASYKI, Dr. Sotiris Koumas, that he expects answers by Friday, clarifying that “we will meet again, next Thursday, in my office, to discuss how we can collaborate so that this situation that has been created can end.”
“The strike measures, as you know, have been suspended and I am sure that we will find a solution next Thursday,” he said and noted that “there will be a discussion, obviously we will also submit something, because as I have said, I believe that there is some compromise formula with which we can continue.”Asked whether he was optimistic, Mr. Damianos said that “I am very optimistic that we will find a solution” and added that “there has been a strike, which could have been avoided, but we must look ahead.” The future of public hospitals lies with the Greek National Health Organization, he continued, and “doctors are the real potential, the first horses that the Organization says will help it move forward.” “We must not make patients suffer and so we must find a solution and I am sure that we will find one,” he added.Asked whether the solution will be holistic, the Minister of Health emphasized that “the solution cannot be anything but holistic and I am sure that the holistic solution will solve the problems and in any case there has been some discussion about this holistic solution and within this framework we will move forward.” “We need to close it, we need to finish (with the issue). Of course, there is also the economic part, there is also the part of the future and we must see how we will ensure labor peace, not for months, but for years”, concluded Michalis Damianos in his statement.
