“This tragic day serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing conflict and the innocent lives lost in the pursuit of peace,” organizers said in a statement.

The protesters demanded an immediate end to the war, the liberation of the occupied territories and the safe return of all Russian soldiers to their homes. “The demonstration seeks to be a strong and active expression of citizens' resistance to the ongoing conflict,”, they said in their statement.

In solidarity with Ukraine, activists say they are in favor of a Ukrainian victory in the war, a Russia without “Putin and Putinism” and call for the immediate release of all political prisoners convicted in Russia for anti-war actions.

As they report, similar actions will take place in many cities around the world.

“We have confirmed that we do not support the Putin regime and its violent policies. We have declared our participation in a fundraising campaign launched by independent Russian media to help victims in Ukraine. We honored the late opposition leader Alexei Navalny and his anti-corruption movement at a makeshift memorial where we repeated his words: “Never give up”. His death in prison, caused by Putin's brutal crackdown, only strengthens our resolve to fight against Putinism, organizers said in a written statement to KYPE.

In Nicosia the gathering took place in front of the Russian Embassy, while in Limassol, Russian citizens gathered outside their country's Consulate, expressing their opposition to the war, holding flags and placards.

The event of the Russian-speaking activists in Paphos took place on the waterfront at the Port Pavilion. Protesters holding banners bearing slogans against Russian President Vladimir Putin said they were protesting Putin's “dictatorial policies.'' They also expressed their “disgust at the wrongful death” of Alexei Navalny.

At the same time, another protest event was held in Limassol, with a march of the Ukrainian-Cypriot Friendship community, along the Limassol embankment, with the speaker being its President, Ksenia Mukhortova, who said that the February 24 is one of the darkest days for every Ukrainian.

For the Ukrainians, he continued, the terror did not start two years ago, but in 2014 (with the invasion of Crimea) and he preached that the civilized world must help, not only because Ukraine is suffering but also for the values of Democracy, humanity and freedom.

He warned that if Ukrainian defenses collapse, dictatorial regimes around the world will realize that they can achieve their goals, while “the boots of the conquerors will knock on the doors of the Europeans, the civilized and technologically developed countries of Asia and possibly, we cannot avoid a generalized war”. and as time goes on and if Ukraine is not supported, in every possible way, “tomorrow it will be your sons who will defend your land and your families”.

He further announced that there is no other way. for Ukraine from defending its lands, culture and language and that it will do this to the end, with dignity and loyalty to the goal of freedom.
