Launch of the funded national P2P-Ironing Research Project

<p>The Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA), Electi Consulting Ltd and Frederick Research Center participate in the consortium of the project <em>“Peer Green Energy Trading Platform for Ports” (</em><em>Peer</em><em >–</em><em>to</em><em>–</em><em>Peer</em> <em>Green</em> <em>Energy</em> <em>Sharing </em> <em>Platform</em> <em>for</em> <em>Cold</em> <em>Ironing</em><em>),</em>the pursuit of which is the restructuring of the use and transaction of energy in ports, with the aim of reducing pollution and enhancing the use of green energy by the ships that dock.</p>
<p>The project, known by the acronym P2P-Ironing, proposes the development of a platform based on blockchain technology, which will allow ships to purchase, procure and operate on green energy, without using their electrical generators while at sea at the port. This not only reduces harmful emissions and pollutants but also energy costs for ship-owning companies, which can use advanced technologies to promote environmental sustainability. The project, in this way, aims to establish a new standard in maritime operations, contributing to the global effort to reduce harmful emissions and pollutants.</p>
<p>The first online meeting of the project consortium took place on May 17, 2024. The P2P-Ironing project is co-financed by the Research and Innovation Foundation (IdEK) with the support of the European Union, under the program CODEVELOP-AG-SH-HE/0823/0197 and has a duration of two years. Both Electi Consulting Ltd, which coordinates the project, and the partners, Frederick Research Center – FRC and CERA, cover a huge range of knowledge, experience and expertise in Blockchain Systems Research, competitive electricity markets, Systems Management of Energy as well as in the regulation of the energy sector. The team is flanked by external consultant Dr. Syed Muhammad Danish. According to the coordinator of the project, Dr. Kyriakos Pavlou: “The team is fully staffed with qualified scientists and with the team spirit of cooperation that it possesses, it is able to achieve the ambitious goals of the project. The project consortium with the support of the Research and Innovation Foundation, but also with other stakeholders, is committed to making this project a success.”</em></p>
<p>Through the sharing of resources and expertise, the P2P-Ironing project is expected to introduce revolutionary changes in the way energy is managed and consumed in the maritime industry.</p>
<p>The project is implemented by Dr. Kyriakos Pavlou (Blockchain Technology) from Electi Consulting Ltd, the researchers at the Frederick Research Center Dr. Marios Lestas (Chief Scientist), Dr. Nikolas Christofidis (Energy Systems Management) and Dr. Achilleas Achilleos (Software Engineering), and the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority.</p>
