The National Strategy for the Development of Mountain Communities reaches Paphos. Two years after its announcement and practical implementation by the Troodos region, the plan now covers the mountainous areas of Paphos with a planning of tens of actions and a budget of tens of millions of euros. Already, the strategy was presented by the Commissioner of Mountain Communities and his staff in the first two areas, with corresponding events that took place in Koili and Stato-Agios Fotios.
Speaking last week in Statos, the Commissioner, Costas Hambiaouris, stressed that the expansion of the National Strategy for the Development of Mountain Communities, prepared by the University of Thessaly and its collaborators, is expected to be completed in February 2023. In this context, he announced, The strategy will also cover areas where there were no interventions in its initial stages, such as the province of Paphos.
“This is a substantial and courageous model of development, which is constantly enriched with a structured, holistic and targeted program of projects, actions, as well as support plans prepared by the Ministries,” said the competent Commissioner, presenting his provisions. “To date, 194 actions have been completed or are in the process of implementation, with a total cost of 367 million euros, with planned actions in the fields of health, education, research, innovation and entrepreneurship, culture, tourism, agriculture and environment. accessibility, community projects and more. “
The National Strategy for the Development of Troodos Mountain Communities (ESAOK), includes a total of over 350 actions, with a deadline of implementation until the end of 2030, as well as a detailed action plan with specific projects, prioritized and costed, with a total budget of over 525 million euros . The proposed actions have been grouped and distributed in such a way as to ensure that any policies, actions and actions will be complementary and productive, giving the local community and economy the expected benefits. Analyzing the planning, Costas Hambiaouris clarified that the Strategy started in the first phase as a pilot, covering the mountainous communities of the central Troodos mountain range in the provinces of Nicosia and Limassol. After the determined evaluation of the course and its positive results, it was decided to proceed with its expansion to cover the mountainous areas of Larnaca and Paphos, as well as Nicosia and Limassol.
“The expansion of ESAOK is being prepared by the University of Thessaly and its collaborators and is expected to be completed in February 2023”, stressed from Paphos. “The same methodology is followed, with the diagnosis of the current situation and description of the main problems of the study areas and then the existing interventions of ESAOK will be enriched with actions, projects and actions for these areas. Thus, the integrated strategic Operational Program will operate in addition to ESAOK. It will include short-term, medium-term and long-term measures and actions aimed at stimulating the economic, social, cultural and environmental development of the communities in question. “& Nbsp;
