The Executive Office of the Democratic Party will meet this afternoon, but the subject of the European elections and MEP candidates will not be the first on the agenda.

The more likely it won't be at all, since the intention of the party leadership is to leave it to the Central Committee which will simply ratify decisions. And because the European elections ballotit is not something that will be put up for discussion, it is left for the Central Committee session.

When the Central Committee will meet has not yet been set. It is most likely that it will be discussed today and a date will be set for its convening. Until then, the party leadership will have the opportunity to complete its procedures for drawing up the ballot.

The equation for completing the six MEP candidates remains difficult for DIKO. The presence of Kostas Mavridis, which is considered a given, is essentially the barometer around which the various scenarios that are circulating take place. The fact is that Kostas Mavridis will be a candidate, even aiming to claim a leadership position in the European Parliament. More specifically, a position of vice president, with the information from the MEP's entourage indicating that it is something that as a thought is maturing after already ten years in Brussels.

Their long-standing presence in the seats of the European Parliament is considered to be able to open doors for him due to the contacts and networks he has developed through his activity, all these years.

This of course means that Kostas Mavridis enters the battle of claiming a third term, denying all the scenarios about half a term or even about his appointment either to the Central Bank or as a candidate for parliament in the parliamentary elections.

The latter is a scenario circulating among public circles, with the MEP's entourage categorically denying all scenarios and noting that any issue has never been raised either by him or by the leadership towards the candidate.< /p>

The candidacy of Kostas Mavridis and the lead he is considered to have for the election, in fact for many it is considered to be the biggest obstacle to convince people to participate in the party's ballot. The director of the party's Press Office and member of the Secretariat Katerina Christofidou is the only candidate so far that is considered a given apart from Mavridis.

Nicolas Papadopoulosshe is making intensive contacts and has approached various people in the last few days to be a candidate. Including young people who are not front line. At some point, the scenario of all three vice-presidents of the party being candidates was studied in order to have a weight on the party's ballot and a competitiveness that would also help the rallying of DIKO. With the ministership of Mihalis Damianos, this scenario was wrecked. It was recently released as a scenario that the MP Chrysanthos Savvidis was approached as well as the MP Pavlos Mylonas, but they rejected.

>> The odds bet

The way the party leadership handled the issue of elections is also discussed with a critical attitude among the public, in the sense that more importance was given to the local elections and not to the European elections. As a result, as it is said, there will be a delay in the completion of the procedures, creating additional pressure on the party.

The big bet for DIKO certainlyis to manage to maintain at least the percentages of the parliamentary elections. This does not necessarily mean that he is guaranteed 3rd place, however if he maintains the percentages it will be easier to manage the result communicatively.

>> Pittokopitis supports AKEL

In a parallel development, the Provincial Committee of AKEL Paphos decided to support the candidacy of Charalambos Pittokopitis for the position of president of the Provincial Self-Governing Organization (EOA) of Paphos.< /p>

According to the announcement of the party, Charalambos Pittokopitishe has extensive experience in matters related to the responsibilities of the newly established organization, having worked for a number of years as an official in the Paphos District Administration.

DIPA is cautious in relation to the initiative of Nikolas Papadopoulos on the Cyprus issue. it is useful at this moment for any party to raise the flag of party patriotism in view of developments in the Cyprus issue, be invited to comment on the initiative of Nikolas Papadopoulos.

He implied that at this stage the initiative has no content of DIKO. As he explained, any developments in the Cyprus issue have not come yet, but if they do, they should be discussed in the National Council. He even wondered what any parallel initiative could offer.
