“Diomidis” arrives from time to time – New yellow warning for strong storms

A yellow warning for prolonged rains and locally strong thunderstorms on Wednesday was issued by the Meteorological Department.

The warning, which runs from 06:00 until 22:00 on Wednesday, states that “prolonged rains and locally strong thunderstorms are expected to affect the area from time to time.”

“The total rainfall is likely to locally exceed 55 mm per 24 hours,” it added.

The barometric low Diomidis, centered in Crete, is moving slowly east and will affect the area until Thursday night.

It will snow from time to time in the highest peaks of Troodos or locally in the higher mountains. Locally, the effects may be prolonged or even intense. On Friday the weather will be mostly clear, with locally increased clouds at intervals. In the afternoon, it is possible to have isolated light rains, in areas south of the Troodos mountain range or light temporary snowfall, locally in the higher mountains. On Saturday the weather will be mostly clear, with locally increased clouds at intervals.

The temperature is expected to drop gradually by Friday, to fluctuate slightly below the average climatic values, while on Saturday it will rise slightly.

The height of the snow in Troodos Square, at the time of issuance of the bulletin, was 12 cm.
