A yellow warning for prolonged rains and locally strong thunderstorms on Wednesday was issued by the Meteorological Department.
The warning, which runs from 06:00 until 22:00 on Wednesday, states that “prolonged rains and locally strong thunderstorms are expected to affect the area from time to time.”
“The total rainfall is likely to locally exceed 55 mm per 24 hours,” it added.

The barometric low Diomidis, centered in Crete, is moving slowly east and will affect the area until Thursday night.
Today the weather will be mostly cloudy and temporarily partly cloudy, with local rains at intervals, gradually in most areas, and isolated thunderstorms. It will snow from time to time in the highest peaks of Troodos or locally in the higher mountains. Locally, the effects may be prolonged or even intense. The observed thin powder will gradually subside. The winds will initially blow south to southwest, moderate and locally strong, 4 to 5 beauforts but in the windward mountains and northwest coast, up to very strong, 5 to 6 beauforts. In the afternoon they will become southwesterly to westerly, in the leewards weak to moderate, 3 to 4 beauforts and in the leeward to strong, 4 to 5 beauforts. The sea will be a little turbulent to turbulent, in the gusts, but in the gusts it will be turbulent and in the morning up to rough. The temperature will rise to around 17 degrees inland, around 19 on the coast and around 7 degrees in the higher mountains.

The temperature will drop to around 6 degrees inland, around 10 on the coast and around zero in the higher mountains, where frost will form.
On Thursday the weather will be partly cloudy and temporarily cloudy, with local rain at intervals, gradually in most areas, and isolated thunderstorms. It will snow from time to time in the highest peaks of Troodos or locally in the higher mountains. Locally, the effects may be prolonged or even intense. The weather is expected to gradually improve in the evening.
On Friday the weather will be mostly clear, with locally increased clouds at intervals. In the afternoon, it is possible to have isolated light rains, in areas south of the Troodos mountain range or light temporary snowfall, locally in the higher mountains. On Saturday the weather will be mostly clear, with locally increased clouds at intervals.
The temperature is expected to drop gradually by Friday, to fluctuate slightly below the average climatic values, while on Saturday it will rise slightly.
The height of the snow in Troodos Square, at the time of issuance of the bulletin, was 12 cm.
