Great surprise and great disappointment was caused by the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Christodoulidis Government not to appoint for the first time since the establishment of the Cyprus Land Development Organization the representatives of the Trade Union Movement to the Council of the Organization, reports PEO, calling on the government “to proceed with corrective actions”.

“When the Cyprus Land Development Organization was established in 1980 with the struggles of the trade union movement, all governments appointed representatives from the trade union movement to the board of the specific organization, appreciating the role it played in the establishment of this organization but also wanting to emphasize its social character”, it is stated in an announcement of the guild.

It is for this reason, it is added, “that we have been greatly surprised and greatly disappointed by the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Christodoulidis Government not to appoint, for the first time since the establishment of the Cyprus Land Development Organization, the representatives of the Trade Union Movement to the Council of the Organization”.

This decision, the announcement continues, “the least that could be characterized is as unfriendly to the trade union movement and as a lack of respect for the positive role and important contribution of its representatives, to the organization all these years”.

“As is known and based on the relevant legislation, the Cyprus Land Development Organization has a direct relationship with the working class of the country and especially with those sections of it with low and medium incomes and the participation of the representatives of the trade union movement in this organization further highlighted the above relationship”, it states.

It is for the above reasons, PEO concludes in its announcement, “that we call on the government to proceed with corrective measures movements on the above subject continuing a practice that was proven to benefit the Cypriot society thus ensuring the role and purposes of establishing this organization”.
