Αναταραχor με διακονο που ζorτησε να πεταξει τα &rho Ασα-«Διασυρμoς της Ιεροσyνης» /></p> <p><b>An uproar has been caused in the ranks of the Church of Cyprus, due to the case of a 19-year-old deacon, who decided that he wants to leave the church, a year after his ordination, a case which is expected to be brought before the Synodal Court to make its decisions. </b></p> <p>Specifically, last year, an 18-year-old had decided to follow the path of the Church and a certain Metropolitan ordained him a deacon, even though the Church's charter states, among other things, that in order to be ordained in this position, one must first be 25 of years. A year later, it seems that the young man has decided that he wants to continue his life outside the Church and cannot continue as a deacon, as a result of which the Metropolitan he is familiar with is called to depose him, a process which, however, must be done through the Synodal Court. </p> <p>Speaking to the <b>REPORTER</b>, the theologian Theodoros Kyriakou, who brought to light the issue in question, did not want to mention either the Metropolis or the temple where the priest served, so that not to be targeted, however he explained that in order to be ordained someone must be 25 years of age or older and not younger, for obvious reasons.</p> <p>As he explained further, “there is a case of a Metropolitan who ordained an 18-year-old as a deacon and now the young man has decided to throw away the races, as a result of which the Metropolitan promotes his removal, from the moment the deacon wishes it”.</p> <p> > </p> <p><b>What does the Charter of the Church say </b></p> <p>However, according to the Charter of the Church, there are five criteria, in order to ordain a deacon or an elder in a Parish, since they must have certain specific qualifications.</p> <p>Specifically, “a) they must be married, healthy and able-bodied, the deacons must be at least twenty-five (25) years old, and the elders must be at least thirty (30) years old, c) they must be distinguished by deep piety, a virtuous life, a good external witness and their love for the Church and its staff, d) to be graduates of a Theological or other University School or a School of Theology recognized by the Holy Synod and e) the local Bishop is financially able, and where the conditions impose on him this, to ordain clerics in violation of paragraph 5 b and d of this article”.</p> <p>Essentially, the action of the Metropolitan was not illegal, since as the Statute states, persons can be ordained without fulfilling the second and the fourth criterion, but the position of Mr. Kyriakos is that the affair with the deacon, “is a diversion of the mystery of the Priesthood”.</p> <p>As he explained, “the Metropolitan should not ordain the deacon and bear the responsibility of his conversion. You understand that at the age of 18 his decision to become a deacon cannot be mature”.</p> <p><b>Before the Synodal Court </b></p> <p>Now, the case will be brought before the Synodal Court, which is asked to give the green light for the removal of the 18-year-old deacon, as is his wish.</p> <p>However, Mr. Kyriakou is asked to comment on whether and to what extent the Metropolitan faces any penalty for his action, he stressed that “it is a mistake and he faces the consequences of his mistake.
