Dozens, according to C / C information, are the workers who, returning from the free areas, passed through the C / C checkpoint, but were trapped in the dead zone, due to their protest at the C / C checkpoint, and now declare that they will stay there all night.
According to reports from the occupied territories, the president of the “Turkish Cypriot Workers' Association in the South”, Georgian Osmanbuba, said that unless a decision is made tonight by the “Ministry of Health” committee to change the transit regime for Turkish Cypriot workers in free areas will remain there until this is done.
The “police director” of occupied Nicosia, Hussein Kadir, went to the Agios Dometios roadblock late in the afternoon and told him that they were not allowed to light a fire – as they had tried earlier – and that if they tried again they would be arrested. Mr Kadir invited them to board the bus waiting for them to take them to those who work in the free areas. He did not even give permission for the food they brought for them to be transferred to the dead zone, provoking reactions from the attendees-protesters at the T / C checkpoint.
The Turkish Cypriot workers, however, state that they will remain in the dead zone overnight and if an “official” does not go tonight to talk to them and resolve the issue of their crossings, tomorrow morning their colleagues who also carry out the same protest in Strovilia, will block in the morning the passage of other workers who live in the occupied areas and pass through this roadblock to go to work at the Gate or Bases.
Due to the continuation of the traffic ban at night in the occupied areas and for this week, which starts at 22.00 until 05.00, the other T / C employees, members of this association, but also relatives of T / C employees who are in dead zone, will leave and return tomorrow, early in the morning.
