The coronavirus mutations, the available vaccines as well as the refusal to vaccinate, both by citizens and by health officials, commented the Professor of Genetics Dr. Konstantinos Deltas, director of the Molecular Medicine Research Center of the University of Cyprus. Speaking to Politis 107.6 & 97.6 and the “Morning Inspection”, Dr. Konstantinos Deltas explained that the mutated strains are more aggressive and contagious, while expressing the hope that a mutation can be contagious but less pathogenic. Vaccines based on data from millions of people who have been vaccinated appear to be effective.
“As with any virus, I expect mutations, but I do not know if modern biotechnology and experts can make something to predict its mutation. It is a scientific development but we can not know if it can happen, “the professor explained.
Commenting on the refusal of citizens and health workers to be vaccinated, the professor of Genetics said that there are no arguments. “Once it is approved, we must trust them. “It is not right to wait for others to be vaccinated,” he said.
The side effects, he said, are present in all medicines, explaining that each medicine may have some side effects after years.
