Dr. Elias [Director of Pediatrics Makareio]: Seven children with Covid19 are being treated – The only way is universal vaccination

One child was discharged from three other child admissions yesterday. A total of seven children are being treated for coronavirus at Makareio Hospital, said Dr. Abraham Elias, director of the Hospital, speaking to Politis 107.6 and 97.6 . “Apparently we are at the peak of the fourth wave of the pandemic, as a result of which we have a spread at a young age and specifically in children and adolescents who are not vaccinated,” the doctor added.

“The course can only be stopped in one way. Only with vaccination. I know that some with speculation may react. “What we are hearing to support their views is unbelievable,” said Dr. Abraham. Regarding doctors who have not yet received a vaccine, the doctor said that “it is sad that an individual group of doctors is calling on people not to be vaccinated and people will get a sore throat.” He stressed that the recommendations come from major international organizations and they are the ones who recommend universal vaccination.

Dr. Abraham said that if 2/3 of the adult population had not been vaccinated, “I can not imagine the situation that would prevail.” The director of Makareio Hospital said that 93% of those currently being treated are unvaccinated and this says that the only way to escape the pandemic is universal vaccination and not only in Cyprus.

Asked about the argument of some that we are talking about a new vaccine, Dr. Abraham said that “in January, two years of clinical trials are closed and therefore it will receive official approval, while more than 6 billion people worldwide have been vaccinated.”
