Dr. Kypri [Covid19 bed coordinator all over Cyprus]: The beds in the private sector are running out - Big problem in Limassol (audio)

“At the moment we have 264 patients, of which 68 28 are intubated,” Dr. Christos Kypri, Covid19 bed coordinator in Cyprus, said on Politis radio 107.6 and 97.6. Dr. Kypri added that there is a rapid increase compared to two weeks ago in terms of patients, since in the hospitals of OKYPY out of 107 patients who were treated, now 150 more patients occupied the beds.

Dr. Kypri stated that at the moment Covid19 clinics are operating in all cities except Paphos, however this will also enter the battle next week. “The beds are not unlimited and we also have non-Covid patients. “These patients (non-Covid) are channeled to the private sector in collaboration with private doctors,” said the doctor. He stressed, however, that “few private hospitals have beds available”. He noted that non-emergency surgeries were stopped in all hospitals, both private and public. “Unfortunately we have to choose the least bad and move on,” said Dr. Kypri.

Regarding the complaint of the president of the Patients' Association, Marios Kouloumas, that patients stay at home despite being seriously ill due to occupancy, Mr. Kypri said that the poor cooperation of personal doctors with their patients is a big problem. “A patient who is ill needs his personal doctor to give him advice,” the doctor stressed.

When asked if there are patients with coronavirus who instead of being in the hospital are at home despite the need for treatment, the doctor answered in the affirmative, saying that this is why the pathology ward at the Limassol General Hospital now functions as a Covid19 ward. He also admitted that there is a problem in Limassol and that is why he added, we are trying to help these people. “If the cases are not reduced and the situation is not stabilized, then we should not rule out new measures,” the doctor concluded, while appealing to the citizens to be vaccinated so that we can return to normalcy soon.
