Dr. Pana:

Christmas is approaching and the pandemic does not seem to subside with the Cypriot community wondering if it will be able to celebrate this year as before.

The adviser of the Ministry of Health and member of the epidemiological committee, Zoe Pana, spoke to ALPHA, on the show “ALPHA Kalimera”, commenting on the new measures to ensure safepass that are implemented today as well as the threat of Christmas from mutations and unvaccinated people.

“The Delta mutation causes disease more easily than other strains and the goal with safepass is to shield the community and shielding is done only when we complete the vaccination regimen,” Ms Pana said.

“A person who received only the first dose can be protected from serious illness at a rate ranging from 30-40% in the Delta mutation,” he added.

“People who have only taken the first dose should speed up the procedure for the second dose”

Ms. Pana pointed out that the goal is to keep the community open during the Christmas holidays, as members of the epidemiological team are aware of the effects of the severe restrictive measures both financially and socio-psychologically.

“It is up to the citizens to maintain the epidemiological picture during the difficult winter months,” Ms Pana said.

“We have to follow the measures and be vaccinated in order to be able to stay open until Christmas,” he added.

Concluding, the advisor of the Ministry of Health, underlined that the forecasts from Europe refer for the month of November that we will have a deterioration of our epidemiological situation.
