Relatives of the dead had visited the graves

About a quarter had flowers, candles, fruit and other items placed next to them, indicating that they had been visited by relatives of the dead. But the rest were marked with plaques on wooden sticks showing their names and dates of birth and death.

The BBC met a woman searching for the graves of her sister and husband, who were killed both from bombings. “They were peaceful people, they were dancers,” he said. He did not know if their bodies had been found or where they were buried.
