Meta has been fined a record €1.2bn by the European Union's privacy regulator for the way it handled user information, giving it five months to stop the transfer of their data in the US.
This fine, which was imposed by Ireland's Data Protection Commission (DPC) and related to Meta's continued transfer of personal data, comes on top of a previous €746m fine it had imposed in 2021 on Amazon by Luxembourg, according to a statement from the DPC.
