A strong earthquake of magnitude 5.3 on the Richter scale occurred at 16:27 in Cyprus. The earthquake was felt throughout free Cyprus and in the occupied territories, focusing on the Forest of Achna. Between the occupied Pergamon and Xylotymvos, about 7 km from Pergamon.
Police patrols were immediately mobilized and began patrols to detect any effects on people or buildings. No injuries or damage have been reported so far. Businesses housed in high-rise buildings were mainly affected, while hundreds took to the streets to discuss the phenomenon.
According to the first information, no damage has been reported. The epicenter is located 42 kilometers east of Nicosia, near Larnaca. The focal depth was estimated at 60 km.
The earthquake in Nicosia and Larnaca was particularly felt.
The plenary session of the Parliament was interrupted for about 10 minutes due to the earthquake, which occurred on Thursday afternoon and was particularly felt in Cyprus.
