Violation of the principle of equality of the Constitution with “obvious discrimination” due to age is found by EKYSY in the plan to replace energy-consuming electrical appliances and speaks of a “free gift” for low-income retirees under 70.
In a statement on Saturday, EKYSY states that it has sent a letter to the Minister of Energy in which it expresses the strong protest of both the Organization and the low-income retirees who are negatively affected by the Plan which is addressed to vulnerable households. “According to him, low-income retirees who can apply must have reached the age of 70 and not live with a person who has not completed it.
“This has rightly provoked the reaction of retirees as many low-income households are excluded, one of the two people is under 70 years old, as well as single retirees whose age is under 70”, says EKYSY and calls for correction “Apart from the injustice that is being created, the discrimination based on age is obvious, that is, the principle of equality that the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus does not allow is violated.”
