The discovery of an unexploded World War II bomb complicates the voting process for the federal election in the German city of Wuppertal, with authorities urging residents not to go to the polls at this time.
There are five polling stations within a 500-meter radius of where the bomb was found, a municipal spokesman said earlier today, urging voters to stay indoors.
The bombing is scheduled for the next few hours. Once completed, residents will be able to go to the polls.
Anyone who wants to vote can do so until 6 pm local time (19.00 Greek time), the spokesman assured.
However, polling stations did not close. Those who went to the polls, despite the recommendations of the authorities, were able to cast their ballots properly.
The bomb was discovered late last night, near the Wuper River. During the night, the authorities proceeded to evacuate the houses that were located around the point. About 1,500 people live in this area.
About 400 of them went to a shelter, while the rest went to friends or relatives or were not at home at the time.
