BUCHAREST/APOSTIL: The election of Ursula von der Leyen as well as the interventions of party leaders and heads of government will be at the center of today's work of the European People's Party congress.

The election process will last around an hour and a half. and it will be by secret ballot and despite the fact that Ursula von der Leyen is the only candidate. With her expected election, the current president of the Commission will head the pre-election campaign that will be conducted by the European People's Party.

In addition to the electoral process, today's day includes a series of speeches by party leaders of EPP members who are in the opposition as well as by the heads of government. In the first part of the speeches, the president of the Democratic Alarm, Annita Dimitriou, will also address a greeting.

The speeches of the heads of state and government will then follow, where President Christodoulidis will also speak. The last speaker in the series of heads of government will be the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The fact that Mr. Mitsotakis will be the last head of government to speak is interpreted as a sample of the strong position in which the Greek prime minister is today in the European arena.

During yesterday's first day of work conference of the EPP, the manifesto of the party was approved, which will constitute the road map for the next five years. The manifesto of the European People's Party is entitled “Our Europe, a safe and good home for our people”.

The document presents the EPP's vision for the next institutional cycle (2024-2029) and the views of the European centre-right on issues such as security and defence, competitiveness and immigration, always focusing on the well-being of Europe's citizens.

Resolutions were also adopted on Russia, the rule of law and agricultural politics. Decisions were also taken on Ukraine, implementing the rule of law in Albania and addressing children's online exposure.
