Epidemiologically, we are moving blindly, says OEB for measures

In today's extraordinary meeting, the Executive Committee of the Federation of Employers and Industrialists (OEB), examined the course of the economy and the data as formed after today's decisions of the Council of Ministers in relation to the restrictive measures.

In its announcement, the Organization emphasizes that it finds the following:

The decisions are unfair to the sacrifices of companies, a large proportion of which have long been either completely inactive or substantially underperforming. The retailer was ready to receive the restart signal today and the focus tomorrow. Retail is suspended for a week and not a word for focus.

All the previous indications were in favor of the reopening of the entire retail sector from 1/2/2021. Postponing for a week is psychologically painful and financially unbearable.

Businesses and citizens need two fundamental data that are interrelated:

First, specific, measurable and transparent targets are needed to limit or lift restrictive measures.

Citizens, workers and entrepreneurs need to know what the goal is from an epidemiological point of view, what the goal is.

Epidemiologically, the day before yesterday we could not talk about reducing the rate of infection, yesterday we could talk about reducing the number of patients, today we can talk about reducing the number of cases, tomorrow we can talk about reducing the number of cases, the day after tomorrow we can talk about increasing the vaccination rate. other.

The goals must be set immediately, and when we achieve them with our sacrifices, the measures will be lifted.

Second and fully intertwined with the first, a road map must be drawn up with designated stations at which the measures will be lifted, until a full return to normal for all activities. The roadmap is of paramount importance for the viability of businesses which today remain closed and consequently for the national economy.

It must be understood before we go bankrupt that economic activity and social life will continue despite the existence of the virus. It is economically ineffective and socially painful to suspend economic and social activity while waiting for the virus to be eradicated. Society and the economy must be prepared and trained to live with the virus.

The whole economy can operate with all those strict regulations and protocols that will ensure the protection of public health and that can be adjusted accordingly to avoid lockdowns and horizontal constraints that have created conditions of despair.

We point out the dangers and at the same time call on the Government to immediately draw up a single reopening plan. OEB's know-how is at its disposal to help.
