The support from the Ministry of Finance for the leisure centers must be equal for everyone, regardless of whether they are restaurants or nightclubs, said the president of the Federation of Owners of Leisure Center Associations OSIKA Neophytos Thrasyvoulou.

In his statements to KYPE, Mr. Thrasyvoulou stated that OSIKA expresses its satisfaction for the fact that the Minister has started and is handling the issue of business support, however he estimated that the comparison made for catering centers in 2020 – 2021 is not correct, since in the winter they did not have too many centers open to work.

He called on the Minister of Finance to include the catering centers in the support for the months of December and January.

Regarding the issue of foreign workers, Mr. Thrasyvoulou stressed that they do not agree with the Minister of Labor, noting that many times they have worked with the method of jobs for the employment of available employees and it has become clear that the available employees appear during his period. January are the ones who have their jobs and will be back in March.

According to him, the Ministry of Labor must be prepared in case there is no workforce to be able to operate and issue employment permits from third countries with procedures that are very flexible and fast.

He added that the Ministry of Interior should work out how it will be able to issue entry permits to employees, so that with the new tourist season, companies with a proper and specialized workforce can be manned. Mr. Thrasyvoulou noted that the economy of the place is based on the tourism industry, for which special attention should be paid.

Asked about the number of visitors to the leisure centers in January, Mr. Thrasyvoulou said that it is reduced by around 10% – 20%, expressing the hope that if the weather conditions allow it and some flights continue, they expect to be crowded in the coming months. He also estimated that as of the end of February, the tourist traffic is expected to start timidly.

We must prepare, said the president of OSIKA, so that after the end of the pandemic we can cover the lost ground.
