Support for the strike mobilization of the hourly gamekeepers and the protest outside the Presidential Palace at 09:30 on Sunday morning, the Board of Directors of the All-Cypriot Union Equality expresses in a statement.
The trade union calls on the Government to respect their “just” request for an immediate salary upgrade to the E7-5th grade scale so that “there is at least some removal of the injustice against them”.
As reported, the hourly gamekeepers are in despair from their long-term labor exploitation. “Our colleagues have suffered unacceptable injustices over the past 30 years. They have been deprived of tens of thousands of euros in wages and other labor rights. They have suffered attacks and beatings, daily threats to themselves and their families, bombings and burning of their vehicles and other property. And yet, they tirelessly continue to protect the environment and the wild fauna of our country”, it is added.
It should be noted that the salaries of Hourly Gamekeepers in the combined Scales E6 – E7 start at 804.90 euros, without the shift allowance, and reach up to 1,411.96 euros, while the corresponding civil servants of Gamekeepers in the combined Scales A2-A5-A7(ii) start from 1,242.58 euros and reach up to 3,276.58 euros . This, it states, “constitutes a flagrant violation of the right to equal pay for equal work, as enshrined in Article 7(a) of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights”.
