Ersin Tatar: The Greek Cypriot side has never assimilated a cooperative on the basis of the Federation

On June 21, Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar will tell UN Secretary-General's Special Representative Jane Hall Luth that formal negotiations on the Cyprus issue can only take place if 'equal international status' and Turkish Cypriot sovereignty are accepted.

For Varosia, Ersin Tatar said that so far 3 thousand C / Cs and foreigners have applied to the Compensation Committee requesting the return of their property.

Regarding Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan's contacts with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Ersin Tatar said he would have a positive impact on the issue of the eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus.

Speaking to Anatolia on the occasion of his participation in the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, Ersin Tatar said that the aim of the informal Geneva conference on April 27-29 was to determine whether or not there was common ground between the parties, adding that in the negotiations carried out for years there could be no result and this has now been strongly expressed.

Ersin Tatar claimed that time was wasted unfairly during the negotiations and that the Greek Cypriot side had benefited from the current status quo. “We now support a two-state solution. “Before I was elected president, I focused my entire election campaign on this,” the Turkish Cypriot leader said.

We said, he added, “that we now want to lead this process with a new vision in Cyprus, that there can be no agreement on the basis of federation. “So far, all the proposals of the negotiations, including those of the UN, have been approved by almost all the Turkish side, the Greek Cypriot has rejected them all.”

According to him, “because the Greek Cypriot side has never assimilated a cooperative on that basis (of the federation) with us, they did not want to share neither wealth nor power with the Turkish Cypriots. Their goal was, as before, to make Cyprus a Greek island, and they do not hide that. “

Now, he claimed, “with the support of Turkey, we are referring to two independent separate states that are next to each other based on sovereign equality. “Only if that happens can there be a permanent and sovereign solution.”

Ersin Tatar said he would meet with Jane Hall Luth on June 21 to discuss whether there was a common ground between the two sides in Geneva. “In our meeting with Lut, we will emphasize that we can enter into formal negotiations only if our equal international status is accepted and that the Turkish Cypriot people are as sovereign as the Greek Cypriot people,” he said.

“It simply came to our notice then. “In Geneva, after all, we were constantly raising this,” he said.

Ersin Tatar said that Turkey is a strong country in the region and in the world, adding that what Turkey says and the support of the Turkish side for a two-state solution is very important. Ersin Tatar said that with Lut's efforts there could be a second meeting, adding that in the event of such a meeting they would continue to support their new policy and attitude.

For Varosia, Ersin Tatar said they opened in October 2020, stating that “under international law the property will be returned to its original owners based on the decision of the Compensation Commission. In this way there will be an opening process, this is compatible with human rights. “

According to him in Varosia “for the return of property more than 3 thousand C / Cs and foreigners have submitted a request to the Compensation Committee as far as I know. “Once they apply, we return the property, so in terms of human rights we have a good development.” “We try not to move against international law,” he reiterated.

Regarding Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan's contacts with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Ersin Tatar said he would have a positive impact on the issue of the eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus.
