ERT fires journalist Demosthenes Karmoiris for racist comment against Korean athlete

Journalist Demosthenes Karmoiris was left out of public service broadcasting following a racist comment he made about a Korean ping-pong athlete participating in the Olympic Games.

With a simple announcement, the Hellenic Public Radio and Television announced the termination of its cooperation with the journalist. “Racist comments do not fit on Public Television. “The collaboration of Demosthenes Karmoiris with ERT was terminated today, immediately after the morning show of ERT1”, ERT specifically stated.

The sports writer Demosthenes Karmoiris, commenting on the defeat of Panagiotis Gionis by the South Korean Zeung in the morning show of the Greek public television, first praised the ability of the South Koreans in table tennis, saying that “they do not play table tennis”.

Then, however, he wondered: “if the eyes are split, how do they watch the ball coming and going?”.

It is noted that a few days ago, the same journalist was forced to apologize for the comment with which he chose to evaluate Anna Korakaki's effort in the shooting final, saying that the Greek champion, who took 6th place, “sailed them”.

The attack caused discomfort to her and her circle, with the journalist then apologizing.
