Konstantinos Kapodistrias, CEO/Executive Director of Chr. Kapodistrias & Sons Ltd, talks about the future of the automotive industry in Europe

Η ευρωπακor ανταγωνιστικότητα, κύρια προτ&epsilon ;ραιoτητα της ΕΕ Konstantinos Kapodistrias, CEO/Executive Director of Chr. Kapodistrias & Sons Ltd.

Our company will welcome 2025 with a cautious optimism. The market of the independent automotive spare parts and repair sector (Independent Automotive Aftermarket) is growing at a rate of of 8-10%, both in Cyprus and in other Western European countries.

There is a major crisis in the European automotive industry, which was caused by Ursula von der Leyen’s failed policy of pushing for a green transition and electric mobility. Recently, however, this policy seems to be diversifying in favor of European competitiveness, which will be the number one priority of the EU. This means that the noise of electric mobility will subside and we are headed towards a technological pluralism where various car technologies will coexist (internal combustion engines, alternative fuels, hybrids, electric, hydrogen vehicles, etc.) without any attempt to pressure, blackmail and guide consumers in a specific direction. At the same time, the average age of cars in Europe is increasing. It has reached 14 years, in Cyprus it is somewhat older, while in Greece it is about 17 years. This means that there will be a greater need for car spare parts, which is also our field of activity.

Recession within 2025

We hope that there will be no deterioration of the situation with the war in Ukraine or the Middle East. We expect that the new US leadership with Donald Trump will focus its efforts in this direction and that in 2025 we will finally begin to observe a recession. This stability will have beneficial effects on the psychology of the world and businesses, energy costs will return to more normal levels, tourism will operate smoothly and smoothly, which will also benefit our country. On the other hand, however, the new Trump leadership is expected to provoke some kind of trade dispute with Europe, by imposing tariffs, etc., while it will try to artificially strengthen the dollar against the euro in order to have a commercial advantage.

Digital reform and modernization

As Kapodistrias, we expect to start work on the construction of our large central warehouse in the Idalion industrial area in 2025. We are also in the middle of the process of changing our company's ERP software. By implementing a new and modern ERP, it helps us in the digital reform and modernization of our company in this sector. Our spare parts catalog, which is mainly B2C, is also being modernized, which helps us more in carrying out our daily work. At the same time, the company is growing and new capable executives are being hired to fill various key positions that will help us in the future.

We hope for a stable climate in Cyprus, Europe and in general so that trade, industries and markets have a successful year.

The company at a glance
