Yianna Christoforou, Lecturer in Graphic Arts at the European University of Cyprus, received the prestigious Wolda award for the logo she designed for SciArt. The logo was awarded an Award of Excellence in the New Logo category, recognizing its exemplary design and concept.
The WOLDA Worldwide Logo Design Award is an established international competition that recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of logo design. It was founded in 2006 in Milan, Italy and is now organized by the International Design and Research Forum in Meerbusch, Germany. At the 14th Awards in 2023, there were 217 entries from 30 countries.
The award-winning logo was created for SciArt, an Erasmus+ project coordinated by the European University of Cyprus, whose main objective is to enhance students' skills through the development of an innovative, inclusive STEAM educational approach to cultural heritage objects. Each line of the logo represents something different, such as Art – Creativity – Antiquities – Science. But when combined they form an abstract happy face, capturing the human aspect of the work and the satisfaction achieved through knowledge.
It is not the first time that Gianna's work has been recognized internationally, as in 2022 she received the Bronze Award in the UDA International Design Competition, in the category Environmental Awareness Poster for Professional Designers.
