EVEA: Strong concerns about the impact on the tourism industry of the war in Ukraine

Must read

& nbsp;

The viability and development of the free province of Famagusta depends almost exclusively on the course of tourism and unfortunately the war in Ukraine will create obstacles to the arrival of tourists from the two countries involved.

& nbsp;

In fact, if we consider that the tourists from the market of Russia and Ukraine who visit the free province of Famagusta represent about 40% – 50% of the total number of tourists in the province, one can easily understand the magnitude of the problem.

& nbsp;

Given that the province's tourism business has been hit hard in the past two years by the pandemic, there are doubts as to whether it will withstand a new blow from the war in Ukraine.

& nbsp;

The Famagusta Chamber calls on the government to support the affected tourism and other businesses in all possible ways, as it is impossible for them to cope with the new data.

& nbsp;

If these companies are left without state support, then many will not operate this summer and others will close forever.

& nbsp;

Also , Famagusta Chamber asks the Ministry of Tourism to move in time to other tourism markets (Britain, France, Germany, Scandinavian countries) to make up for any losses incurred by Russia and Ukraine.

& nbsp;

NATIONAL ISSUE

In the same context, the Chamber of Famagusta expresses great concern for the issue of Famagusta. Already, the Turkish side is trying to capitalize on the arguments with which Russia invaded Ukraine, so that the national issue and consequently the issue of Famagusta are entering new dangerous paths.

& nbsp;

He also called on the government and the parties to launch a wide-ranging diplomatic campaign in all countries, seeking their support for the national cause. Under no circumstances should Turkey be allowed to use Russia's arguments to protect its compatriots. Instead, we must promote the illegality and condemnation of the invasion, combining it with the provocations and illegal actions of Turkey in Cyprus and especially in Famagusta.

& nbsp;

Finally, The Chamber of Famagusta condemns in the strongest terms the Russian invasion of Ukraine, since as a refugee Chamber it experiences for 48 years the occupation of its city by Turkey.
