EVEL: Nicosia becomes the first

The Nicosia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EVEL) expresses its satisfaction for the start of the implementation of the project that integrates the capital of Cyprus dynamically on the path of digital transformation and smart, sustainable development.

With integrated, long-term and high international standards design, the project transforms Nicosia into the first “smart city” of Cyprus and makes it a pioneer in the development of the digital economy, harmonizing it with the ever-growing innovation production ecosystem of the city.

The project contributes horizontally in many areas with a key role in the sustainable development of the city, strengthens its functionality and management, while upgrading the facilities provided to citizens and businesses and in general the quality of life of citizens.

The duration of the project will be 36 months and will be co-financed by the European Structural and Investment Funds, the Republic of Cyprus and the Municipality of Nicosia. This project aims to improve the quality of life of citizens, the rational use of natural and other resources, as well as the adoption of innovative technologies.

The project that will be implemented by the companies Logicom Solutions and Cyta on behalf of the Municipality of Nicosia, is expected to modernize the quality of services to citizens. It is worth noting that the first smart city infrastructure and systems will be available by 2021.

Among other things, the project will include the installation of a wireless network of the Municipality of Nicosia, a system of electronic network announcements and the installation of smart lighting. At the same time, the actions related to the monitoring system of environmental parameters (dust, temperature and air quality), the monitoring system for filling the waste bins (smart waste), the creation of an integrated system of sustainable mobility (smart urban mobility) and the smart management and information for finding parking spaces (smart parking).

EBE Nicosia believes that the investment in the digital transformation is necessary for the utilization of the unique possibilities that the business, scientific and wider human resources of the capital have. It welcomes the start of the project of a smart city of Nicosia which will stimulate and highlight the capital as a competitive center of entrepreneurship, investment and services, with the citizen, the entrepreneur and the environment at the center.
