Exploring Local Culture: Limassol 3rd Primary School visits Ibrahim's Hani in Paphos with the support of EUROPE DIRECT Limassol-TEPAK

On Thursday 18 May, 150 students and teaching staff from 3rd Primary School of Limassol had the opportunity to visit the Hani of Ibrahim, the famous historical monument located in the heart of Paphos.

The educational excursion, which falls under the initiative “Europe in my Area/Europe in my School”, was organized with the aim of discovering the local culture and is the first time that such an initiative is launched in Cyprus. p>

After a pleasant trip to Paphos, the students of the 4th, 5th and 6th grade of the 3rd Primary School of Limassol,they were given a tour of Ibrahim's Hani and told about its history. The children “explored” the area in which the monument is located and walked through its “neighborhoods” that reveal traditional work and local production. Local workshops and shops were visited, whose owners shared the secrets of their art, daily habits and unique products, revealing the multi-dimensional culture of the region.

After the visit and upon returning to the desks, students will participate in creative workshops, such as painting, putting into practice and in a creative way what they have learned. Their drawings, capturing the children's artistic expression as well as the immersion in the local culture, will be presented in a special exhibition at their School, on International Children's Day, June 1st.

The Ibrahim's Hani was restored in 2019 by the Municipality of Paphos with co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund. The building, with an area of ​​2,500 sq.m., is a place of special importance for the culture and society of Cyprus and Pafos in particular. Historically, the old building functioned as an inn and gathering place for merchants and artisans. Today it houses several craft units and a theater.

The “Europe in my Area/Europe in my School”is an initiative that connects students through recreational activities with local institutions and Projects that have received co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund. The visit to Ibrahim's Haniwas organized by EUROPE DIRECT Limassol – TEPAK, in collaboration with the School and the Parents' Association and with the support of the General Directorate of Regional Policy and Urban Development (REGIO) of the European Union.< /p>

EUROPE DIRECT Limassol – TEPAK proudly supports European initiatives that promote cultural heritage and education and actively stands by local communities to create a more dynamic and culturally richer society. The visit was a valuable experience for the students, giving them the opportunity to learn about the local culture and history in an exciting and memorable way.
