The responsible implementing body for the project is the Electromechanical Services Department of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works in collaboration with the Cyprus Energy Office.

The plan is included in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan with the policy axis of rapid transition to a green economy – sustainable transport. Its implementation will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as other pollutants. The available budget for the current phase is €2,500,000.

The plan is part of the commitments of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to promote the use of sustainable technologies, alongside the plan to promote electrification to purchase vehicles with zero or low CO2 emissions. Its purpose is to promote electric mobility through the development of an extensive network of recharging points for electric vehicles.

Eligible places to install the chargers are parking spaces for public use, such as municipal and community parking spaces, private parking spaces (e.g. parking spaces of department stores, hotels, supermarkets, banks, private hospitals, shopping centers, etc.), gas station spaces petrol stations, recharging station areas and fake parking spaces (on-street parking or along the road surface).

Beneficiaries of the sponsorships are natural persons, legal persons (companies, unions, foundations, federations), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), legal entities under public law, as well as Local Government Authorities that carry out economic activity for the purpose of this plan, are owners or tenants of parking spaces for public use and operate in areas under the control of the Republic of Cyprus.

It is clarified that beneficiaries donot include natural or legal persons who aim to install the station for private use (e.g. charging the organization's vehicle fleet).

The scheme grants up to 45% of the cost of installing electric vehicle recharging points.
