False posts on social media and videos with message recipients involved

Fake and deceptive posts on social media that contain malware

In recent days, the Cybercrime Sub-Directorate of the Police has received many complaints regarding false and misleading posts on social media that contain malicious software programs – Viruses. There are two types of scams and the public needs to be careful.

a) Sending a message (mainly to Messenger) with misleading content for a relevant video in which the recipient of the message allegedly participates.

b) Misleading posts on various social media and communication applications, related to false publication for successful treatment of Covid 19 in Mexico.

Both of the above cases are considered malicious.

The public is advised to be especially careful and to avoid activating these posts as they contain viruses that have the ability to intercept personal data and passwords as well as the rapid spread of the virus among users.

It is also recommended to report and delete such posts from social media.

In case of activation of such posting, it is recommended to immediately check and change the account password.
