Fani Papavassiliou announced her withdrawal from the race of the parliamentary elections in May with the party of EDEK in the province of Limassol, through a letter, due to the vote in favor of the revised State Budget. In the letter she sent to the president of EDEK, Marino Sizopoulos, and was communicated to the members of the Movement, Ms. Papavassiliou expresses the view that the socialist party should not support the government.
In particular, he states that he believes that “my party had to stand on a rock in front of the establishment and defend these ideals and values. A socialist party, with a long history in favor of the workers and the underprivileged, cannot be pressured to vote on the budget by the government under the pretext of stopping the payment of salaries, allowances and pensions, without even claiming or depositing substantive proposals. He should and must, to stand up to the circumstances and to assume the responsibilities that belong to him “. He adds that EDEK “should have been a pioneer in the fight against corruption and entanglement, scandals that have dragged our country internationally.”

Subject: Withdrawal of my candidacy from the Limassol District ballot
A few weeks ago I accepted a proposal that had been made to me by K.S. of EDEK to join our forces and to claim a seat in the House of Representatives as a candidate of the Movement in the upcoming parliamentary elections in the district of Limassol.
I am a man who comes from a family of bio-wrestlers who nurtured me with the values of Socialism and Democracy, that Republic which gives the right to equal opportunities, equality, equality, free expression, the development of critical thinking. Values that build a state of law, welfare with a human-centered character. Social solidarity is essential. The forces of the middle and small classes have been exhausted. Who to help who, from what backwardness and how.
I believe that my party had to stand on a rock in front of the establishment and defend these ideals and values. A Socialist party with a long history in favor of workers and the underprivileged cannot be pressured by the government to vote on the budget on the pretext of stopping the payment of wages, allowances and pensions without even claiming or submitting substantive proposals. . He should and must stand up to the circumstances and assume his responsibilities. He also had to be a pioneer in the fight against corruption and entanglement, scandals that have dragged our country internationally. Listening to the people and under the weight of the circumstances and responsibilities that belong to me towards my voters, it becomes clear, then, that my presence in the party list in the upcoming elections can no longer be in line with the expectations of my fellow citizens for their representation in order to highlight the chronic problems and to achieve a solution to them.
For all the above reasons, I announce through this letter, dated 21/01/21, my decision to withdraw from the position of EDEK candidate in the province of Limassol. Unfortunately, also from the position of the member of the Central Committee and the President of the Socialist Women's Movement of Limassol.
For my part, from my own heart, I promise that every day I will continue to fight and fight for the interests and rights of the weakest and the most privileged, the bio-wrestlers, the minorities, the whole of society.
I remain a companion. Ordinary soldier, always next to my fellow citizens.
