The Department of Forestry, due to the start of the hunting season (fassa hunting) next Sunday, issued a warm appeal to hunters to be especially careful during their excursions in the rural and forest areas, completely avoiding actions and activities likely to cause fire. That is, to completely avoid lighting a fire for any reason, as well as throwing lighted cigarette butts and matches, since the prevailing weather conditions are particularly favorable for the explosion and spread of fires.
It is also emphasized that the disposal of empty cartridges in the environment is a serious pollution and that this is also prohibited by the “On the Protection and Management of Wild Birds and Game Law”. Therefore, the hunters are called as they collect the empty cartridges.
It is reminded that lighting a fire in forest and rural areas is strictly prohibited and that this action constitutes an offence, which, according to the Forestry Law, is punishable by imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of up to €50,000, 00 or both penalties together. Lighting a fire is only allowed in the specially designed grills of the Forestry Department's picnic areas for food preparation.
It is emphasized that the consequences of fires are incalculable.
Finally, anyone who notices smoke or fire inside or near forests is urged to immediately call 1407 (Forest Department) or 112 (Fire Service).
