Inspections on a pan-Cypriot basis in agriculture, livestock, wholesale markets, packaging plants to combat undeclared work and control of compliance with basic labor laws.

Specifically, the Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance, in the context of the effort to combat undeclared work and control compliance with Basic Labor Laws, informs that in April 2022 targeted inspections were carried out on pan-Cypriot farms, agriculture packaging plants.

Checks were carried out on 101 premises, where 81 employers and 20 self-employed workers were identified. The total number of employees identified was 311 (183 men and 128 women). Analytically, 172 were Greek Cypriots, 48 ​​European Union citizens, 91 Foreigners from Third Countries.

14 undeclared employees were identified. 2 Infringement Notices and 2 Fine Imposition Acts amounting to € 25,000 were issued.

The aim of the campaign was to raise the awareness of all those involved in these economic activities, regarding the consequences of undeclared work and non-compliance with the provisions of the relevant Legislation.

It is noted that, in accordance with the provisions of the relevant Legislation, in case of locating an undeclared person in the Social Insurance Fund, an administrative fine of € 500 multiplied by 7 months is issued, unless proven by employer's side that the breach period was shorter. In case it turns out that the period of violation was longer, the fine is multiplied by the actual months.
