Police investigations continue into the death of four workers, aged 39, 36, 23 and 22 on the Road, in the catastrophic fire that broke out on Saturday in Limassol and spread to mountainous Larnaca.
Information from KYPE states that a unit of TAE Larnaca went to Odos in the morning and are continuing the investigations regarding the conditions under which the four workers lost their lives.
Investigators followed the route taken by the four workers from the place where they worked and lived, to a farm in the location “Paliabela” of Odos, to the point where they were located in a steep area with a narrow dirt road.
The four workers, after leaving their place of residence in a double-cab car, tried to escape, however, at some point on the road that followed, due to the smoke, the car overturned in a steep area.
The four people got out of the car and tried to escape, however, because the direction of the fire was from the bottom up, that is, towards the mountain, where there was dense wild vegetation of trees, shrubs and crops, they could not escape.
It is recalled that the bodies of the four workers were found around 9 in the morning of Sunday, July 4, on an inaccessible hillside, at the location “Goula”, on the road.
The bodies were found during a rescue operation, which was set up on Saturday afternoon, with the participation of members of the Larnaca Police Department, the Forest Department, the Civil Defense and civil volunteers.
The employer of the four men reported to the Police on Saturday night that he was missing and did not answer his phone calls from 5 in the afternoon of the same day.
According to the employer, the workers had contacted him and told him that they would leave their premises, in a specific car, due to the fire that was approaching dangerously.
The car was located by a patrol of the Fire Service, around 8 on Saturday night, burning in a ravine in the “Goula” area, without any person in it.
Medical Examiners Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos orthodox went to the place where the bodies were located and performed an autopsy, while on Monday a legal autopsy was performed.
However, because the workers' corpses are charred, attempts are being made to identify their bodies by DNA.
The case is being investigated by TAE Larnaca.
