Firefighters continue to fight the flames in Deschutes County, Oregon, USA where a forest fire is raging.

According to the state fire service, the fire front had spread yesterday Wednesday (6/26) to more than 8,000 hectares.

The fire that broke out in the afternoon on Tuesday (25/6) took on large dimensions due to the strong winds and forced local authorities to issue evacuation orders for the areas that were immediately threatened.

The American Red Cross opened a shelter to accommodate the residents who were forced to leave their homes.

Last week a fire broke out in a nearby area, which burned about 4,000 acres.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

< p>“Fire season is here and human-caused fires are on the rise. We all need to be prepared and do everything we can to prevent fires,” an official said. “As Oregonians prepare to enjoy our state's beautiful natural lands in celebration of Independence Day, remember to stay aware and alert for wildfires,” he added.
