First cultural cooperation agreement between Greece and Cyprus

Πρоτη συμφωνη&alpha ποιτικσυργσασμετ ;ξy Ελδασ Κyπρου /></p> <p><strong>The Agreement replaces the Memorandums of Cooperation of previous years and provides for the exchange of good practices concerning the organization of archaeological museums</strong></p> <p>The Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni and the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus Lina Kassianidou signed the First Cultural Cooperation Agreement between Greece and Cyprus. According to a relevant announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the unbreakable ties, the close, fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation of the two countries in the field of Culture were confirmed at the meeting of the ministers. This is the 1st Agreement between Greece and Cyprus on Culture and is a continuation of the systematic cooperation of the Ministries of Culture of the two countries, a result of the work of the 1st Supreme Cooperation Council of Greece – of Cyprus under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President Nikos Christodoulidis, which took place in Athens last November. The Agreement replaces the Memorandums of Cooperation of the previous years and reflects the new directions and content of cultural cooperation, which expands into the fields of Cultural Heritage and Contemporary Culture.</p> <p>As the same announcement informs, the Agreement provides for the exchange of good practices concerning the organization of archaeological museums, with an emphasis on the construction of the new Archaeological Museum in Nicosia, as well as the organization and exchange of periodical exhibitions. In recent years, a lot of extremely important work has been done in Greece, in the context of the digital transformation of the Ministry of Culture, with the creation of the Archaeological Cadastre, the Portal of Mobile Monuments, the Historical Archive of Excavations and Restorations and their respective Integrated Information Systems, with substantial results in the service of citizens, the educational and the investment community. In this context, it was agreed to transfer know-how for the respective issues to Cyprus, while the dispatch of experts is planned within 2024.</p> <p>It was agreed to exchange know-how through the Organization for the Management and Development of Cultural Resources in the formation and organization of sales and items for sale in the archaeological sites and museums of Cyprus, but also in the training of Cypriot students in the ODAP copy production workshops, as well as with their participation in the programs of IEK Ekmageion, which is expected to operate immediately.</p> <p>Mutual objective, within the framework of the Agreement, is to support producers, co-producers and participation of theatrical forms, in festivals and educational programs with the aim of regular presence of Cyprus in all important festivals in Greece.</p> <p>At the same time, the political will of both sides was confirmed to strengthen traditional and modern handicrafts through the exchange of know-how and good practices, support of craftsmen and designers, organization of educational programs and overall creation of strategic programs for the reconstruction and development of handicrafts in both countries, which have a long and important tradition in the genre.</p> <p>It was agreed to strengthen the cooperation of the two countries within the framework of International Organizations, and especially UNESCO, given the great experience that Greece has in the preparation of candidacy files, for the benefit of the respective Cypriots. Finally, special emphasis was placed on strengthening cooperation in the field of protecting cultural goods from illegal trafficking, with the two countries taking the initiative to create a network with other Mediterranean countries, with which Greece and Cyprus have excellent cultural cooperation.</p> <p>“Our visit to our beloved Cyprus is combined with the signing of the Cultural Cooperation Agreement between the Hellenic Republic and the Republic of Cyprus. This Agreement constitutes the new institutional vehicle and the essential foundation of our common understanding and partnership – which already exists – in the whole range of Culture issues, both cultural heritage and modern creation”, said Lina Mendoni, among others . And he continued: “The deepening of cooperation in Culture is a common pursuit. Greece and Cyprus share, as two States that belong to the same Nation, an ancient heritage, which requires joint mobilization for its protection and promotion. For this reason, a prominent place in the Agreement is the protection of cultural heritage, tangible and intangible, its recording, documentation, promotion, through the use of innovative technological tools, but also its openness to all without exception, through the universal accessibility to monuments, archaeological sites and museums.</p> <p>These are areas in which for five years the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made great efforts, which have already borne fruit.</p> <p>Particularly important is the agreement that already exists on all issues of suppression and limitation of the illegal trafficking of cultural goods, an issue that particularly concerns Cyprus, after the invasion of 1974, which saw its untold cultural wealth brutally looted. Both our countries have been used as places for the illegal export of cultural goods. This is particularly important for our two peoples and we absolutely join forces for joint action. Especially in international fora, in the United Nations and UNESCO, we must express ourselves unitedly and unitedly. This way we can reach the desired results more quickly.</p> <p>Our cooperation obviously also concerns Contemporary Culture with its main dimensions being osmosis and its mutual feeding with the cultural stock, but also its co-operation with the other branches of productive economy”.</p> <p>The Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus Lina Kassianidou in her address noted among other things: “With this Agreement, we promote and institutionalize the already existing excellent cooperation of our countries in matters of Culture, and at the same time we create the perspective for the development of new cooperation in the field of protection , highlighting and promoting cultural heritage, tangible and intangible, strengthening access to cultural goods through digitization projects, as well as improving accessibility to cultural spaces. You realize that these are matters in which the Greek Ministry of Culture has already acquired vast experience and know-how and has a strong lead. It is also a given that we are determined to work together to combat the illegal trafficking of cultural goods, a scourge that affects us both. Cyprus-Greece cooperation in the context of policy formulation for Culture through the institutions of the European Union, the Council of Europe and international organizations, such as UNESCO, is also of particular importance.</p> <p>It was and will be essential. and our cooperation in matters of modern culture. Among other things, in our previous talks and contacts, we have placed particular emphasis on the added value that culture and creative industries bring to the economy, social cohesion, mental health, well-being and sustainability. It is not only that the cultural and creative sectors create jobs, enhancing the employment of human resources, but also that the development dynamics of culture and its role in attracting quality tourism contribute to local development and robustness.</p> <p>For for all these reasons, we expect that in the context of our cultural cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Hellenic Republic we will have the opportunity to draw know-how, examples and best practices from the valuable experience of Greece”.</p> <p><noindex></p> <div class=Source: 24h.com.cy
